Jess James

Jess studied a BSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Bath, including a yearlong industrial placement in Cambridge. She went on to study an MSc in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Systems Biology at Imperial College London, and now pursues a DPhil in Engineering Science.

Under the supervision of Prof Harrison Steel, Jess's DPhil project focuses is the development of a new method for directed evolution, which utilises Microfluidics, Optogenetics and state-of-the-art Microscopy. The project also includes a theoretical component, simulating the process of directed evolution in order to explore optimisation strategies.
